Language Arts

Welcome back 8th grade parents!

The 8th graders have just completed a vocabulary study of homonyms, homophones, and homographs. We are currently in the middle of a "Growing Up" short story unit. With this unit, students are working on reading comprehension and the application and analysis of literary elements. To accompany this unit, they are responsible for completing a Biography Board this trimester. Students signed up for their week to present between now and the end of October. I have been very impressed with the boards turned in so far.

As a reminder, students have weekly spelling lessons and tests. In addition, the reading requirements for 8th grade consist of 2000 reading minutes per trimester and 3 book reports (book talk, alternative style report, and written report) completed per trimester. Your child should be reading 10-20 minutes at home each night. Many students have begun turning in signed bookmarks already which is great! Keep it up!
