Science: Mrs. Louise Mistry

The 8th graders are continuing their study of chemistry.  We have mastered the basics of the periodic table and are now moving on to chemical reactions.  This week we have been focusing on the role of valence electrons in the formation of chemical bonds.  The students have learned about the relationship of valence electrons and location of an element on the periodic table.  They  learned about the formation of ionic and covalent bonds and studied various examples on each.  The 8th graders are beginning to understand how properties of elements can be predicted by their location on the periodic table.  Additionally, we have learned the names of elements 1-50 and many students have scored a perfect 10 each week on their element quiz.

All the best to you and your families in 2012.  Hope it is a great year for you all!
