Welcome back and to 2012! I hope you had a relaxing break with family and friends.
8th graders are busy working in Chapter 5, Application of Proportion. We have spent the first weeks of 2012 working with ratios--writing and simplifying them, finding the unit rate, solving proportions, working with similar figures--especially overlapping triangles, scale models & maps, and indirect measurement. Many of these concepts are a review from last year, but with a few twists to make them more difficult. 8th graders are doing a great job handling the twists!
8th graders started today to work on their scale drawing project. Each student has measured their bedroom and at least ten items in their room and now will make a "blueprint" of their room. It is a great way for students to take what they are learning and actually use it. They will spend several classes completely their work and we will then test over the chapter.
