Last Friday, 8th graders took the chapter test for Chapter 6, Percents. It was the last grade for the second trimester. The class as a whole did very well on the test.
8th graders are working on Chapter 7, Exponents and Powers. It is a short chapter so we will be testing over it before Spring Break. We have already looked at Scientific Notation, writing both very large and very small numbers. This is their first experience writing with negative exponents. We have also discussed multiplication and exponents--simply adding the exponents when you multiply a number with the same base. Division and exponents has 8th graders subtracting the exponent when dividing a number with the same base. Simple concepts, but can be difficult when put all together.
